Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body
– Elizabeth Stone
When my first child was born this quote resonated so strongly with me that I thought no truer words had ever been spoken. The idea of leaving my baby with someone I didn’t know was terrifying and yet at 18 months I realized that despite everything I was doing with him, the multitude of benefits he would receive from attending a part-time daycare program outweighed my need to keep him close.
And so the search began. I knew exactly what I was looking for but the childcare centres I visited fell terribly short of my expectations. I realized that I was very lucky because I wasn’t in a position where I had to enroll my little man in childcare with which I wasn’t 100% comfortable and it broke my heart that many parents wouldn’t have that luxury. Eventually I found a centre for him to attend but I knew there was still a better way.
After my second child was born it was time for me to bring my vision of the ideal daycare to life. With six years of experience teaching in a private Toronto high school and a history of family-owned businesses, I couldn’t have been more ready.
I understand the level of trust parents put into a childcare centre when they leave us with their most precious possession. I have such confidence in what we’re doing that my own children are Caterpillar & Co. kids.
